Getting There

Getting there is easy, most of the cheap airlines go to either Alicante or Murcia airports as well as a few charters like Thomson.

Airline Travel

A number of different airlines fly into the area, I have used EasyJet, Jet2, Thomsonfly and BMIBaby for all of my travel up to now but there are other companies and agents that might prove to be more convenient for you. I have flown from Newcastle, Teesside (Durham Tees Valley), Leeds Bradford, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports and found access easy. For links to airlines click here

I prefer to leave my car at the long stay car parks near the airports rather than inside the airports, its generally a lot cheaper and only slightly less convenient.

Hiring a car online is also easy and convenient. You can collect a car at Alicante or Murcia and leave it at either on return. I have used Holiday Autos for my car hire and found them to be reliable and provide good value. They are a broker and source the best deal within the car hire companies available at either airport. All the companies I have used spoke sufficient English to explain conditions of hire. There are a few companies that have desks within the airport but don't be surprised if you have to collect your paperwork and keys from a van in the car park outside. A good tip if you are only out for a few days (or dont intend to do much travelling) is to ask the hire desk if you can bring the car back full of fuel rather than empty. This is because a lot of cars are now diesel and if you agree to take it back empty - you will find it difficult to use up the fuel but you will of course be charged for a full tank of diesel. Be aware that if you use the motorways at night there are no cats eyes in the road so if there are not many cars out you need to watch carefully.

The duty free shops at Alicante are quite extensive and there's usually enough to suit most needs. The duty free at Murcia has lim ited shops and cafes and a small duty free shop and whilst it does sell the usual stuff there's little choice. My tip is to buy everything you need in resort and forget the duty free shops at the airports.

The Costa Blanca is on the east coast and enjoys a warm and sunny microclimate for most of the year.
